Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Symptom treatment imageThoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a condition caused by compression of the nerves, arteries, or veins in the thoracic outlet—the space between the collarbone and the first rib. This compression can lead to pain, numbness, and tingling in the shoulders, arms, and hands.

Chiropractic care for TOS often involves a multi-faceted approach. A chiropractor may use manual adjustments to the cervical and thoracic spine, as well as the clavicle and first rib, to restore proper joint motion and reduce pressure on the neurovascular bundle. Soft tissue therapies, such as massage and stretching, are also used to address muscle imbalances and tightness in the neck, chest, and shoulders. Additionally, a chiropractor may provide therapeutic exercises and postural recommendations to help strengthen weak muscles and correct poor posture, which can be contributing factors to TOS.
